Sheldon Art Museum Visual Identity

Visual Identity
A set of newly redesigned graphic elements for the Sheldon Art Museum.

OBJECTIVE
The assignment was to create a logo and visual identity system for a museum or cultural institution of my choice. The goal was to create applications for the visual identity including a stationary system (letterhead, envelope, and business card) and promotional items (print and digital).

APPROACH
I decided to do my redesigns for the Sheldon Museum of Art located directly next to UNL campus. I started by doing both secondary and primary research for the project, including, visiting the museum's website, as well as other famous museum websites, and going to the museum itself. Then I started to sketch out many different logo ideas and create a color scheme. For this I decided to use very neutral colors and simple graphics, that mimic the museum architecture. I also decided to use the marble pattern located on the building's exterior to create a pattern. Next I started working on the stationary. I ended up leaving all of these pieces in black and white other than the inside of the envelope, which shows the marble pattern I created. Finally, the last piece of the assignment that I worked on was the promotional items. For this I decided to design a bus-stop poster, an animated digital advertisement, and a website for both desktop and mobile devices. For these I used work from the museum, the marble design I created, and the logo I designed to create a transferable layout.
